The Bangla-speaking community in NSW would like to strongly urge the NSW Government to introduce Bangla (Bengali) as an ATAR subject in NSW.
With over 100 candidates appearing in HSC in NSW each year, they are deprived of learning Bangla at senior high school level and taking the advantage of appearing at HSC with Bangla as an ATAR subject.
There are hundreds of students from this background at lower level classes, who have been learning Bangla under both the NSW school curriculum system as well as at community language schools.They deserve to be given the opportunity to further continue learning Bangla and take Bangla at HSC level as an ATAR subject.

I have spent the last few days talking with families who are frustrated that their children cannot study their own language for their final exams. It is heartbreaking to hear students describe the disconnect they feel between their home life and their school curriculum. We are currently preparing a formal proposal to submit to the department to show them exactly how much this matters to our local community.

Seeing this momentum grow confirms just how many families deeply value keeping our language and cultural identity alive in classrooms. I am moved by the resolve of our community to ensure our children can finally study Bangla as part of their formal education.

Bangladeshi community, specially, their new generation will be benifitted from this educational inclussion by NSW Govt.
I am sure many more students will choose bangla as an HSC subject if this was counted towards their ATAR socre.
Bangla is the only language in the world for which people had to fight and sacrifice their lives to get the birth right of speaking mother language, to show respect towards this great cause UNESCO has declared 21st February as international mother language day. So, it is todays demand " Bangla should be introduced as an ATAR subject at HSC".
That is the best initiative the Bengali community ever have.But I am in doubt whether we can achieve that through our community engagement as I have experienced the disunity within so called community leaders as well as Bangla school executive people(Too many) but less students. We will be proud more than any, if Bangla become ATAR subject for HSC. My support will be always with BANGLA PROSHAR COMMITTEE.
Being 4th most spoken language in the world and around 50,000 Bengali background people living in NSW, it desreves to be included in NSW ATAR immediately.

I support the campaign and this will be a great way to sustain cultural ties with our ethnic background.
