Ignition Interlock Standardization
Every half hour, someone, somewhere in America is killed by a drunk driver, and every two minutes someone is seriously injured. I have heard story after story about one person or another who had everything going for them, and had a bright future who was killed when they were hit by a drunk driver that got off without a scratch. At this time we give people the benefit of the doubt that they will not drink and drive, and people abuse that trust and do it anyway. Unfortunately, the police cannot catch all the drunk drivers, and the ones they don't are a serious hazard. What I am suggesting is that ignition interlock devices become standard and required on all cars, although only to start the car, not to keep it running. Although it may not completely eliminate drunk driving, I believe that it will go a long way to making the roads safer.
