In the past few weeks we have seen horrendous acts of discrimination and a blatant disregard for human rights in the failures to indict those responsible for the deaths of Eric Garner And Michael Brown.

We have chosen to pursue and advocate for justice in our life's work, and these systematic atrocities will not be lost on us, because we have a responsibility to speak up and take action.

These events have had a serious impact on our student body, which has been struggling to address issues of race prior to the lack of Grand Jury indictments. An overwhelming amount of students are disheartened by our current academic approach to issues of race. Over the course of the semester we have observed discombobulated discussions and even apathetic attitudes towards racial matters. We do not accept this. We strongly feel there should be a beginning base of curriculum for all students to examine our nations history of racism, and we think this is an absolutely necessary foundation to have in order to honestly begin to examine our studies through an anti-oppressive lens. We think it is imperative and only logical to integrate the history of racism into the foundation of our courses, as it is lacking in so many of our discussions.

We ask you to sign this petition in support of integrating this material into our curriculum, so that we can improve how we address these issues that are so vital to the work we do, and clearly the work that our nation needs of us.
