Install PlayPumps in Somalia

The Somali people experience severe droughts frequently. The summer of 2011 brought the worst drought in sixty years. Tens of thousands of Somalis have died of malnutrition-related causes; three million Somalis are still in urgent need of aid, including food and water for drinking, washing and cooking, and more than 10 million are still at risk. The answer to this water scarcity crisis? The PlayPump. The PlayPump is a specifically designed and patented roundabout merry-go-round that drives a pump underground to draw water, all while entertaining children, who are often deprived of such playground equipment. The PlayPump has a low breakdown record due to its robustness, compared to commonly used hand pumps in rural communities, it has very low chances of water-point contamination, and is relatively easy to operate once rotating, hence children find it fairly easy to play. However, PlayPumps are only operating in South Africa, Lesotho, and Swaziland. By signing this petition, you will be showing your support for PlayPumps in Somalia.
