So many aspects of the club seem to be operating dysfunctionally. Unstable leadership and personality politics appear to be at the root of most if not all of these problems. Stable respectful leadership is needed .

Players need to be able to be assessed in objective fair ways for membership on top tier teams

I have been sponsee and member of the club for many years. This is embarrassing, disgraceful and and flat out, immature. Please resign.

It’s interesting 4 Board members appointed themselves Gold Coaches selecting thier kids and are out practicing while silver still have no communication. How’s that for a well intentioned volunteer Board!?!? Marc Storms, are these concerns not valid now that your on the board and your daughter is playing on the gold team? Thanks for sharing this Chris. Our daughters (twins) also play at Bays. Try explaining this to them?!!! In 2021. In middle class Fairfield/Oakbay and area. With so many strong female leaders (my wife for example whose email has gone unanswered)… how does this continue. This is my response to Chris Gilmore’s post: “I’m so frustrated on so many levels. This is such blatant sexism of the worst kind. This is the age where gender roles are set for our young girls. The worst is that as caring community members who also volunteer for Bays, we are being ignore. There is no “Bays office” that I can go in and talk. There are no phone numbers for the decision makers. So we email respectful letters sharing our concerns AND providing suggestions and…nothing! No response. I’ve become so frustrated I feel like the only option is going to the media and/or contacting the sponsors. They all need to know about what Bays thinks about girls - based on their actions. Boys get more practice time?!!! Gold team starts earlier and gets so much extra time and yet, we all pay the same? Our girls are being left behind. We have offered solutions by email all the way up to the president, and radio silence. And as I said…on a personal level, I coached last year, I put my name forward again this year and no one has contacted me to say I’m needed or not needed. But based on the email sent out late tonight, they don’t seem to have the respect to let me know.“ This board is biased and needs to be replaced! Our children and parent concerns need to be addressed!

This "petition" is a shameful and embarrassing farce. First off, Danny quit the board alone. The other "executive member" was set to resign anyway. Saying anything different is a lie. There were ten board members and 8 still remain so Danny is by himself here. Secondly, the other members of the board were elected 2 months ago at the AGM. Before the AGM Danny was sending out propaganda campaign emails about how important democracy was to him. Now he took the ball and walked off the pitch by himself he has no regard or respect for the rights of others or the fact they were all democratically elected by the members of this club. Embarrassing. The volunteers who run this club often go to extremes to keep things moving and this sort of nonsensical political interference only causes harm to the volunteers and ultimately the kids who just want to play soccer. Finally, the people signing this are either old board members, people who didn't get their way somehow and think they have a right to selfishly crash the board so they can do whatever they please, or people who only heard Danny's side of the story. I urge anyone thinking about signing this to contact the Board to hear its side of the story. Shameful. This comment is screenshotted. If it's taken down, it'll be posted everywhere including the evening news. Enough is enough.

Made the difficult decision to withdraw my children entirely from Bays this season. Would love to re-enrol them but not with the club the way it is currently.

I’m getting a lot of emails so I’ll use this forum to clarify that I did resign as President along with another member of the Exec team after only a couple of months in the role. It quickly became apparent I could not rely on factions of the Board to work collaboratively with me, making what is a volunteer role a tedious and unmanageable affair. The Bays Board will benefit from new leadership bringing different experiences, energy and the ability to compromise in order to deliver the myriad of programs it offers in a professional manner. From my personal experience any new Board will need to move away from partisan decision making that has tainted the reputation of the club and consider member feedback as opportunities to improved as opposed to criticism. I hope that helps clear up questions for those asking. DP

I’m signing this because I believe in community sport. I reluctantly stepped away as a Director in May because some current board members have continually attempted to centralize decision-making and have blocked fair process again and again. I didn’t speak out prior to the AGM as I feared my children would be punished. It’s time for change.

Definitely. This board needs replacing. Bays needs an entirely new and more modern team.
