I have an ADHD/ODD child...diagnosed at 3, now 24....was told by psychiatrist at inpatient adolescent home at age 16, that he had the right to refuse medication to treat his illness....he's been awful ever since and refuses to right the wrongs and be remedicated. May the GoodLord help me, but I have to cut ties with him. His illness, I believe, has morphed into something greater...sociopath vs bipolarity... I'm brokenhearted. These kids are doomed by those who are supposed to help them.

No one goes to jail or gets treated unfairly for having cancer so why should this young man with his whole life ahead of him be confined in prison? I do not understand. Its wrong on so many levels. Most of all he has a mother who is by his side to support him and she can not do so if hes locked up. This tactic has prooven time and time again to be unsuccessful or as they say "doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results".

WE must work to radically transform the mental health and legal systems that are cruelly and unjustly incarcerating people with serious mental illnesses and not providing the needed treating. This is cruel and archaic treatment of a young man who is suffering with complex illnesses. My heart is breaking for what he and the family are suffering in a so-called medically advanced society. abhorrent. My son was incarcerated when suffering psychois -- we were trapped by the system -- in the US while he was Canadian.. Police here are not trained to handle the mentallly ill. He has been beaten and tasered unnecessarily... When will the greater society start to listen to the atrocities that are happening right now -- stop the stigmatizing educate about mental illnesss and substance use disorder. Please send light and prayers for the mothers who are valiantly trying to help their children

There is a great need for more dual-diagnosis (co-occuring comorbid disorders) treatment facilities. The necessity to address addictive and mental disorders is of paramount importance in-part due to the heroin epidemic plaguing Everytown, USA. Treatment over incarceration!

I'm also fighting this in our justice system for my AS they sent in a doctor who said my son was faking it,! How can u fake mental illness,,this needs to stop ,,,,Now,,,prayin this opens some eyes to the real deal,,,addiction and mental illness see to go hand in hand,,justice for all❤️
