Have you ever been on a drive with your precious family and have a large chunk of ice or snow come off another vehicle in front of you or going by you, smashing your windshield?
Well, I have. My young son was with me when it happened. I saw it come off the other car and head straight for ours. I only had time to shove my son down under the dash and for me to scrunch down behind the steering wheel.
To say I was scared is an understatement! My son was screaming because he didn't even know what happened or why I would be shoving him like that.After the initial impact, I looked up to see my windshield had been smashed, a large hole in it, and what was left of it was pushed in towards us. The rear view mirror was in the back seat.
My son was fine, thank the Lord, but I could feel glass in my hair and knew there were pieces in my scalp that needed to come out. But my first concern was my son and then....what do I do now?
The worst part of it was that the driver who's snow and ice made this mess, didn't even know it happened and the last thing on my mind at the time was to get the make and model and plate number!
Anyway, the reason for this petition is to get some support to help me pass a law to make it illegal not to clean off the top of your vehicle after a storm. This includes all vehicles, not just cars. Even commercial trucks like trailer trucks, bread trucks, mail cars, suv"s.....anything that drives on our roadways.
A couple of days ago, I had to drive to another state, and I can't tell you how many times I had to dodge ice and snow coming off other vehicles! One large trailer truck had a big sheet of ice come off right in front of me and part of it hit the upper part of my windshield. What a noise it made and I was lucky, this time, there was no damage.
How long does it take to clean off you rig? Most vehicles, not long. I understand that the bigger vehicles would take some effort to climb up on and to clear it off. Would you rather do that...or be responsible for some one else being hurt or killed?
Try living with that for the rest of your life.
