DEL CASHER should be Inducted in Rock N Roll Hall of Fame
DEL CASHER, a professional guitarist since the 1940s, was a teenage protege of Les Paul, and performed with Frank Zappa at Whisky A-Go-Go, and appeared in the 1965 Elvis Presley movie Roustabout. Most notably, as an engineer at FENDER, in 1967, Del invented the "Wah-Wah Crybaby" guitar pedal. A signal-switching effect, achieved not by a dial, as the company wanted, but as a foot pedal, as Del decided.
A stroke of genius.
Del's gadget quickly became popular, defining a new 60s sound, used by Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton, and Jimmy Page, and Jefferson Airplane, and then later by Kirk Hammett and Slash, among many other guitar gods.
Just to name a few songs featuring Del Casher's inventive sound: "Across The Universe" (THE BEATLES), "White Room" (CREAM), "Polk Salad Annie" (ELVIS PRESLEY/JAMES BURTON), "Paradise City" (GUNS N ROSES), "Let's Get It On" (MARVIN GAYE), "Dazed and Confused" (LED ZEPPELIN).
Del still hasn't been inducted in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. He should be.
