Save Coultrap - build an indoor pool in Geneva!
Geneva needs an indoor pool facility. Coultrap is an historic building with a special place in Geneva’s history. Put it together and you get an indoor pool facility serving the local population in a beautiful historic building in downtown Geneva! Every mom I have ever met in Geneva has at some point in our acquaintance brought up the question of where to send their kids for swimming lessons. We all end up driving long distances to other town’s facilities to meet this need. Even our local swim team has to meet in another town. The money spent not only on the lessons and facility use but on the meals consumed by families traveling to other towns for this purpose would be returned to our local economy. It just makes sense. Whether it becomes a part of the school district, the park district, or both, no one can deny the need we have for an indoor pool facility in our town. It is a facility that will surely make a return on the investment. All ages can benefit from a local pool facility. Swimming is one of, if not the, best form of exercise, it is an important life-skill, and it is therapeutic. The time is coming soon when the School Board for District 304 will hold their public hearing regarding the future of the Coultrap building - June 16th and 17th. This is how long we have to gather our signatures in order to make our desires known. It would be a costly endeavor, but ultimately it is an investment in our own community.
