This decision has a profoundly negative effect on academic freedom and the pursuit of knowledge.

Academic freedom? How about respecting the freedom to associate of I.U. faculty?

I/we express our strong SUPPORT of Dr.s McRobbie and Daniels. The ASA's position is wrong: it applies an extremist double standard - focusing on Israel and BLINDLY ignoring the exponentially and vastly greater travesties occurring in the countries surrounding it. I/we SUPPORT the form of your (Dr.s McRobbie and Daniels) opposition to the ASA resolution. I support freedom of speech but I do not support the application of double standards where microscopes are applied to one side and a painfully obvious blind eye to another. To quote a wise man, "the ASA boycott has nothing to do with human rights. It's an exercise in radical chic, giving marginalized academics a frisson of pretend anti-colonialism, seasoned with a dose of edgy anti-Semitism".

As a follow up - if the ASA's puritanical standards are to "boycott [upon] institutions that deny academic and other freedoms" as one has just stated, then they should be very, VERY busy with ALL the 'very democratic' nations surrounding Israel .... Women's rights, religious rights, racial ... oh wait ... I forgot. A 'Chic' double standard exists. Sad.
