The holding hands or small embrace of a loved one help to remind inmates that they are human. It reminds them that there are people waiting for them on the outside and reminds them to maintain good behavior. Removing these small pleasures dehumanizes both the inmates and the visitors. For some, this is the only contact they get with their husbands, fathers, sons, etc for years or even decades.

Taking the last little bit of hope from inmates and their families is so very sad.

Inmates are people and they need to be treated like so. These new restrictions are just outlandish and shameful.

The visits now really suck. I am trying to keep my marriage together with only 6-10 hours a month of visit time. Having lunch together, holding hands, reading a bible study helped us feel some what normal and now that is getting taking away. My birthday is on Tuesday and I couldn't even have a birthday meal with my spouse. I have being told the new rules are to stop the drugs from getting in. Not sure how that is happening if we can't go to the bathroom, we get patted down, and the inmate is stripped searched before and after. I feel like the prison system is trying to get people to stop coming up for visits, by punishing the loved ones. And now our family pictures now look like mug shots. WE have taking a picture ever time, so when he gets down he knows that he is loved. Now he can't even enjoy the pictures. I have been a faithful visitor and have gone up over 100 times. I see a lot of the same people visiting there loved ones. It is not fair to punish all of us for what a few might have done. Please let these inmates feel like they our loved and allow us to get the tables back so we can hold hands again. Plus without the table we are further apart, so leaning forward to be able to hear really hurts my back. PLEASE LET US BE FAMILIES AGAIN!

I assume the changes were needed due to abuses by a few but to handicap the rehabilitation of all I hope you will reconsider and at the very least award for good behavior.

Wabash Valley Correctional Facility had changed their visitation policy (is not updated at their website yet) 1-They removed the embrace at the end of the visits (brief kiss and a hug) 2-Before we were able to eat some snacks with our loved ones from the vending machines (now we can buy them up to $30 worth in snacks and they can take them back to their cells) 3-Picture with the loved ones (paid by the inmate) now you need to stand next to your loved one with your arms to your side, you can’t touch no even with their uniform. Feels like you are taking a mugshot instead of a family picture. 4-Before you were able to hold hands thru the visits now is prohibited (you sit 3 feet across) 5-There was a kids area where toddlers could play with the inmate (now they are expecting a kid stay quiet with no food or water for the visit duration sitting in a chair 3 feet across their loved one) Remember these new rules are being imposed to inmates who aren’t in the No Contact Visit The location of Wabash correctional is far for many families meaning they need to drive 2+ hours Visits are limited to once every 14 days Please is hard enough for the families and the inmates Don’t take away the human contact they can received only twice a month! Holding hands and being able to say goodbye to your loved one who you aren’t allow to see in at least in 2 weeks is meaningful to them. Is not like they are asking for marital visits is just holding hands and a goodbye kiss.

Please put the privileges of the visitations back. We drive over 3 1/2 hours to see my brother and snacking and hugging him means so much. Thank you.

Family support is a huge part of rehabilitation, so please don’t take that away from the prisoners!

I've waiting to 34 years to finally meet my brother and introduce him to my family. He is excited to be an uncle but it's near impossible for his young niece and nephew to visit him with Wabash Valley Correction's awful visitation policies. Please give back being able to eat together and the children's' area. And getting to hug one another is so important.

I drive 3 and 1/2 hours to see my Son and now I can't touch him or eat with him. Please give us back the precious time with our loved ones.

Please give us our rights back on our visitations!

Please do not put any unnecessary restrictions on visitations. It’s hard enough for families already.

I don't get to see my son very often because of the drive and now they have taking away my right to sit and hold his hand and eat with him!! I am very upset at this!! Pls give me back my right to hold my son hand!!!

We the people demand our prison to return our contact visits for those who are normally allowed contact. Having non-contact visits and video visits are breaking up the family unit and are disrupting the rehabilitation of the inmates. This is inhumane, egregious, and wrong.
