Indiana Hunting Rifle Cartridge Change

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE 30/30, 35 REM., 308 MARLIN, 45/70 AT LEAST ADDED TO THE LIST CALIBERS ALLOWED.

Why is it legal to hunt coyotes in Indiana with any rifle caliber but not deer? Doesn't make and sense to me needs to be changed

I hunt solely with a Winchester 30-30 and wish it were legal in IN.

I have a 30-30 I would like to use. I grew up in Kansas and never did understand why Indiana doesn't allow it for hunting deer.

I am of the mind that all straight line cartridge cases 38-40, 38-55,45-70 and the 30-30 should all be deer legal being 308 Winchester 243 Winchester 7MM Remington are legal for coyote hunting!!!

I think they should consider adding the 30-30 & any existing, straight wall cased rifle cartridges that have a case which is 1.6 inches or longer... with a caliber of .35 or larger. This would open up 5-10 existing cartridges which have always been considered to be short range cartridges. I also think that these could be restricted to private land only. That would protect the state from liability on state owned land... Thank you, Earnie Needham

On page 34 of the Indiana DNR hunting regulations, there are no firearm regulations in Indiana for hunting coyotes and such. Why are there deer?

I'd take 223 Rem. and 5.56x45 off the list, as they do not posses enough kinetic energy to drop an animal quickly (but a good accurate shot would negate this). But if a wide brush is needed to paint this canvas, so let it be.

Please consider this change to our hunting regulations. More accurate shots mean less wounded deer. My dad can hunt a few more years with a lighter recoil rifle, and I can use the rifle's I already own rather than having to buy or build one that meets current regulations. Many I know already hunt with 14 inch 30 caliber pistols, and the only person I have heard getting shot was with a shotgun slug.

Many hunters in states that allow the .223 have proven that it is more than capable of taking deer. A 62 grain Barnes TSX and proper shot selection/bullet placement will drop any deer in Indiana. Gut shots with a 30-06 will likely result in a lost deer.

I live in lower MI where there are a lot more restrictions for our firearms deer season than Indiana has.

It makes no sense that someone can hunt coyotes with a rifle and not deer.

I see no practical or safety reason with the guns that we are now allowed to use in this state Why this law should not be allowed .The vast number of those type and ballistic identical caliber of guns being used proves that the fears of safety and danger are unfounded .They are already in use for varmint and coyotes hunting on flat open ground . If the guns we are talking about that are .30 cal guns of the non-belted magnum range are allowed it will add to the efficiency and actually be as safe to the hunters and non hunters of this state as what we use now and are more accurate and less likely to bounce off of hard ground or trees as Shotgun slugs do now . I say allow the 30-30 ,30-06 ,308 and even the 270,280 and 7mm08 or 35 rem ,444, 4570 they are all made to deer hunt and are no worse a gun to use as what is allowed in this state now .

I agree all rifles stated should be legal deer hunting equipment.
