The Jan Lokpal Bill (Citizen's ombudsman Bill) is a draft anti-corruption bill drawn up by prominent civil society activists seeking the appointment of a Jan Lokpal, an independent body that would investigate corruption cases, complete the investigation within a year and envisages trial in the case getting over in the next one year. The draft Bill envisages a system where a corrupt person found guilty would go to jail within two years of the complaint being made and his ill-gotten wealth being confiscated. It also seeks power to the Jan Lokpal to prosecute politicians and bureaucrats without government permission.

Respected social activist Anna Hazare who has begun a hunger strike that he says will not end the fast unto death begins on Tuesday, till the government proves its commitment and enforce the Jan Lokpal Bill.
Its website (www.indiaagainstcorruption.com) describes the movement as "an expression of collective anger of people of India against corruption. We have all come together to force/request/persuade/pressurize the Government to enact the Jan Lokpal Bill. We feel that if this Bill were enacted it would create an effective deterrence against corruption."
His weapon is potent. In 1995-96, he forced the Sena-BJP government in Maharashtra to drop two corrupt Cabinet Ministers. In 2003, he forced the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) state government to set up an investigation against four ministers.

Finally someone is standing up to these thieves. I hope the government listens before it is too late.
Go Anna go! The whole country is behind you. Time to clean up the system.
Enough is enough. Corruption has eaten this country from the inside for too long. Anna is doing what no politician has the guts to do.
Jail the corrupt ones. No more excuses from the govt. ANNA ZINDABAD!
These netas only care about their own pockets. They need to be held accountable. Lokpal is the only way.
