We petition the State of Virginia to raise the base pay of all tipped employees in the Hospitality Industry to at least minimum wage. It is deemed necessary and vital to our income and economic standing. Being paid less than minimum wage, creates serious issues when it comes to tax season and most tipped employees can not pay the taxes that we owe. This results in levies, garnishments, and additional fees to be paid by us for not having the proper amount in due time. Raising the tipped employee rate would allow us to save additional money for the end of the year and to obtain health insurance being that it is most often not granted during employment. With the obtained signatures and push from the service industry, we request that a law be passed to grant this motion.
