Convince the University of Maryland Department of Facilities to include funds in its 2015 budget to renovate all the restrooms in the Benjamin Building and make them more accessible to people in wheelchairs.
Note: The 2014 Facilities Budget for routine campus improvements is $10M!
Restrooms in the Benjamin Building do not provide easy access for people in wheelchairs.Other than changes to tile and fixtures, the restrooms have not been completely renovated since the 1960’s.Well over 50% of the original buildings on the UMD campus have not been renovated in over 40 years (UMD Facilities Department Report). Considering the ADA didn’t come into effect in 1990, it is no surprise that wheelchair access is poor.
