Petition to the Education Secretary, to Reflect True English History by Including Black Tudors in the National Curriculum

I feel that it is more open and honest view of the curriculum to be taught in a more truthful and balance way reflecting a true account of the diverse population of Black Tudors living in Britain at that time.

In this multicultural society it is essential that minority groups are also taught some of their significant & positive History. Many Black families have been in this country for generations & are very much a part of the education system. It is necessary that young Black pupils/students feel included in the History of this country. Wendy

Dear Michael Grove, It has fallen on your shoulders to make a stand by insisting the real facts about the African presence in England; particularly Tudor history. In 2013 it is scandalous that the African presence in Tudor history is hidden in this way. As the education secretary you would be eliminating the huge pink elephant that exists where the facts speak for them selves yet the history books omit and therefore it makes liars of teachers. Schools are failing on a national level. home schooling and suplimentary schooling is on the rise. The UK population are aware that something is wrong and you can heal this rift by including African Tudors into the National Curriculum. Dispel the myths and assist with developing and building an educational system that regains the trust of many students, parents, teachers and academics not just nationally but on a global level. A proper historical account of the role people of African descent has played in England is an prerequisite for building an inclusive society.

Whitewashing history is not curriculum reform but curriculum oppression; an inclusive curriculum is the only way forward

The petition should be: Petition to Education Secretary, Michael Gove, to Reflect True English History by Including African (not Black) Tudors in the National Curriculum. In the meantime, an African Tudor education pack should be produced without delay for use by pupils, teachers and parents.

I hope this will focus on the need to say English history is a full and blessed history that takes in all there is and fills in the holes of other histories. That there were African Descendant people in Tudor England should not be a shock. Africans had been raiding England and Ireland for enslavement probably as long as there were ships along the coasts of Africa.

Britain's involvement with other cultures, especially Africa, has greatly contributed to its success and development. This should be acknowledged and celebrated

People from Africa have live din and contributed to this country for c. 2000 years. Omitting them, and other darker-skinned immigrants, as well as the working class (be they 'Black or White' from the curriculum is a total misrepesentatin of British history.

True Identity is key.. the days of white washed history are over

Many of us living in the UK today do not have our roots here and only being taught about someone else's history cannot be good for the mind - everyone needs to have a sense of where we are coming from!!

It about time, Mr Gove Thank you, i have bean saying this for years we need black history in the national curriculum.

I would definitely like to see the introduction of the African Tudors in the curriculum. It would educate students from all walks of life.

As a former school student of both West Indian and English education systems; I understand the importance of teaching our children a more balanced cultural history.

It's never too late for our children to learn that we have a history.
