For a school project, I am arguing that students should be off for bigger holidays of different cultures, rather than just White ones. I am revolting because I have first hand experience with being behind on school work due to celebrating Diwali with my family. I have also heard from classmates who celebrate Chinese New Year that they can’t spend time with family because they are forced to come to school. Although the school can argue that there is already an existing policy about not having to complete homework the night of a religious holiday, rather than letting a student let loose and enjoy the holiday with their family, they are met with stress about being behind in school. For many of us, high school marks the last few years that we will be able to spend cultural holidays that occur during the school year with our families.
