Clients facing insecure housing and homelessness are found in rural and urban communities. Social workers can help identify whether insecure housing is a barrier to providing services or treatment by advocating to add questions about housing to their agency or practice assessments. Identifying housing insecurity provides a social worker with an opportunity to intervene and connect a client to statewide resources.
Social workers can:
1. Ask, "Where did you sleep last night?
2 - Contact the Homeless Continuum of Care in your region
Alabama has eight (8) Homeless Continuum of Care Coalitions that regionally coordinate services for homelessness, and each continuum maintains a network of organizations that provide direct services in your community.
