the board just voted to bring spanish into our elementary schools and i am honestly stunned. thank you so much to everyone who jumped on board with this idea. now we just have to keep our eyes on the rollout to make sure it happens the right way.

Currently, Spanish is not included in the D34 curriculum until the 6th grade. As many of us know, children are able to absorb a foreign language more easily at a young age. There are neighboring districts that feed into D225 that begin Spanish in Kindergarten or first grade. Please sign this petition to demonstrate parent support of this initiative. It will be shared with the D34 School Board and Superintendent in hopes that Spanish will be added to the curriculum of the elementary schools in the future.

Please consider modernizing the curriculum to include Spanish in the younger grades. Many, many other districts do, leaving 34 students at a disadvantage.
I strongly believe in this initiative. Studies for years have shown profecinecy in language is best learnt at a young age, and the younger the brain the more brain pathways are built to enable more languages to learned easier and easier.
In our increasingly global world, it's imperative to expose children to a second language--and the earlier the better. Would love to see D34 integrate Spanish language into the curriculum as opposed to solely offering as a before- or after-school additional-fee option, which is cost- and schedule-prohibitive to some families in the district.
I agree 100%. As a child of a native Spanish speaker/ESL who benefitted greatly in his demanding career by being bilingual, I support every child learning a second language in school. The cost of the language enrichment program has increased significantly in past years and does not fit many families' budgets.
In our society of multi-culturslism, we are doing a disservice to our children by not providing Spanish to them. We have had our daughter enrolled in the GLL extra curricular Spanish for 3 years since K. Her Spanish is a 12 year commitment on our part. We truly hope that D34 can support this.
It will benefit the kids when they get older.

I fully support this effort and am happy to contribute in helping this get implemented. It is so critical for language skills to be taught at a young age. My kids have both asked for it and would be elated to see the option available.
