The government has officially reinstated racing occupations to the skilled visa list. This outcome secures the future for many trainers and workers who provide the essential backbone of our industry. I am grateful for the collective persistence that defined this effort.

Final supporters
The occupation lists which are used to determine which occupations are eligible for certain skilled visa subclasses(including 457 visa) have been significantly condensed.
With racing jobs removed from these lists, the racing industry of Australia may face huge problems in the future trying to fill such positions. Trainers will struggle to maintain their businesses without a sufficient number of skilled workers(many trainers are already short staffed as it is!!) Currently, foreign workers are the back bone of this industry. Every second track rider, strapper or jockey you meet are from overseas. And many need Australia as much as Australia needs them because opportunities can be so limited in their home countries.
Australia is a place with opportunity and demand for foreign workers in racing. So please please sing this petition and share it with your friends family work colleagues etc so that Turnbull can realise what a huge mistake he is making!

I was on a 457 visa when i came to work in Australia, and am now a successful trainer. Australia needs capable trackriders and foremen to help the industry grow... so please support Racing Australia
What an industry crippling move, as an Australian I can quite confidently say that these new limits will destroy the industry, there is a very limited amount of Aussies that have will and capabilities to fill these jobs, pretty ashamed of this move to say the least.
I worked in Australia for 18months on working holiday visas. It was a huge stepping stone in my career and I wish to return there one day. Unfortunately this is something I would not be able to do without the skilled work visa. Australian racing is an international buissness therefore having international workers is vital.
I have worked in the Racing Industry for 26 years and have worked with so many highly skilled International horsepeople, they are an Assett to our Industry, they are great workers and bring a broad range of knowledge to the Industry. It would be a big mistake to take horse racing off the 457 Visa list..
Catastrophic for the racing industry in this country and potentially making the industry more dangerous with potentially less skilled people trying to do the job at at hand. Enough lives and life changing injuries occur every year as it is !

With racing off the skilled worker list and trainers unable to outsource skilled labour staff will become less experiences not only impacting on the industry as a whole but also the welfare, care and management of the animals within it
