In a clear example of state-backed anarchy, on the instructions of the current Vice Chancellor (Prof. Abhijit Chakraborty), the police launched an assault on the students who were holding a peaceful sit-in protest in the main campus of Jadavpur University. This protest was being carried out to ensure that an independent inquiry be carried out for the Molestation case that had occurred in the campus premises earlier. The 'lathi charge' has resulted in the hospitalization of 36 students and 40 students have been arrested for 'disrupting peace'. We members of the Jadavpur University fraternity strongly condemn the actions of Prof. Chakraborty and we demand that he be held accountable for his decisions.
