Rabbi Levy is extraordinary - and it pains me that he is in this regard - in how he is prepared to speak truth in this way, and in how he has put himself out there to right a wrong that is being perpetrated. Kol Hakavod! It takes such bravery and unfortunately, many of our rabbis, who should be leaders, do not possess this. Thank you Rabbi Levy for restoring my hope; you are a modern day rabbinic hero.

I've spent time with Rabbi Dweck and know him to be an honorable and brilliant Rabbi to whom people should constantly listen and from whom should continue seeking advice and guidance.

To Community Member,
While I can respect and agree with your desire to respect and uphold the values of our parents and grandparents, I can't agree with you on this issue. The Jewish People do not exist in a vacuum in which we do not participate in the society around us. On the contrary-- Sephardic Jews especially have a long tradition of recognizing that there is what to learn from the world around us. Society does not poison us. It informs our Judaism and has allowed us to continue committing to Judaism for thousands of years.
Maybe you believe polygamy should still be allowed. Or that we should continue marrying our cousins. Or that perhaps America had it all wrong when they decided to integrate public schools and allow black children to enroll alongside white children. These are examples of society-- both within the Jewish community and beyond it-- waking up and realizing that maybe the way of their parents and grandparents just doesn't make sense anymore. The world around us changes and so do the people who inhabit it, including Jews. The fact that those of us who signed the petition are supporting a Torah-based addressing and analysis of the issue (whether or not the individual agrees with the particulars of Rabbi Dweck's argument) is a testament to our commitment to Judaism and its values, and to learning how to relate to God and our fellow man in an ever-changing society. Rabbi Dweck was courageous enough to do this publicly. You were not courageous enough to sign your name.

For everyone that signed this petition. I want to ask you all to think for a moment.
Think about all the reactions that the older generation of all religious observance has had to these comments.
Think about how many rabbis have united against this. From the reigning chief rabbi of Israel to practically every rabbi in our community.
Why do you think that is?
Our society has affected us in a very negative way. The old values we had are being attacked and it's becoming evident in the younger generation. Our parents and grandparents would never stand for this. They've heard the lecture and think this is absolute lunacy. Just ask them.
Our Torah never changes our values never change and the fact that such a discussion could be tolerated let alone endorsed by over 2,000 members of the community is a sad revelation of how poisoned we've become.
I say we because if you've been infiltrated it effects all of us. We need to band together educate ourselves on the proper ethics of the Torah and stop considering nonesense.
