I am appalled at the horrific abuse directed at anyone - especially women - who dares to speak up in defence of the material, biological reality of sex, as well as women’s sex-based oppression and rights. No-one - whatever their beliefs, and provided they do not break any laws - should ever be subjected to threats of violence, death or even of getting them removed from their jobs or livelihoods. No matter how rich or powerful, J K Rowling has a human right not to be subjected to such abuse, as do all the much less powerful women who have been intimidated into silence, left publicly isolated or sacked from their jobs. The more the rational, compassionate and tolerant majority stand together, the more it becomes clear that extremists attempting to silence women represent only a tiny, irrational minority of the wider population.

I stand with JK Rowling, she’s not said anything harmful, or untrue. And she’s entitled to have, and express her opinion.

If you put lipstick on a misogynist, he's still a misogynist. Thanks for standing up for women, J.K.

The disgusting and vile abuse that JKR has tolerated for a long time from Transactivists must no longer be tolerated. It's shocking that she has recieved rape and death threats from these people when she has simply stood for women and children's rights and safety. I am shocked at the lack of safeguarding around children who are being told they are in the wrong body especially vulnerable girls with autism. I'm horrified at her thoughtful questions about causing irreversible damage to children has been met with cowardice and malice by people with a sinister agenda. Enough is enough. Time to stand strong against child abuse and misogyny.

Misogyny is boring. Death and rape threats are so passe. Stop blaming women for your own turmoil and your Y-chromosomes. Woman is not a costume, not a feeling, not for sale. Stop trying to play gods and for gods sake, get off Twitter til you've calmed the fk down.

JKR has made a compassionate, nuanced statement. She is now being disgracefully vilified by mens rights activists

JK Rowling has shown tremendous compassion for the trans community in her comments, to suggest otherwise is simply wrong. Her voice supporting the rights of women is an important one which must not be silenced with threats of violence or declarations of 'bigot'. I stand with her and all of my sisters, in the name of my daughters.

I want my daughter to grow up in a world where women are considered fully equal to men, and not just a subordinate costume people put on.

Women will not tolerate being told to sit down and shut up. We will stand up and shout.
