I love the CB Strike series, and if anyone would bother to read Troubled Blood, they'd see it barely mentions that the killer crossdresses a few times, and has nothing to do with trans people at all. More importantly, it's never okay to harass or threaten people for their opinion, unless they're literally telling others to murder people, or something. Everyone so up in arms has obviously not read her essay on her website about this topic. She has no issue with trans people, trans rights, people's rights to identify however they want. What she doesn't like is the stomping on of cis women's right to safety and privacy in restrooms, the one place we should not have to worry about men. She does not ever say that trans people could harm women if they're able to get in our bathrooms. The issue is that cis men could now easily enter, pretending to be nonbinary, to facilitate assault, rape, or worse. Even if it only happened once, that's one time too many. Women who are survivors of sexual assault shouldn't have to be afraid every time they have to pee in public. And yes, it also bothers her that people want to pretend women born that way aren't any different from women born with testicles. Not that their identity isn't valid, but that they simply cannot have experienced the fear, shame, insecurity, scrutiny, and discomfort that growing up a cis woman causes. The same way a cis woman will never know how it feels to live as a trans woman. You can't say two different people are exactly the same when biological differences have caused vastly differing life experiences and feelings. It's just a fact that before transition, trans women had male privilege. They never had to feel terrified walking home on a dark city street at night. They never had to worry about the damage done to their body by pregnancy and childbirth. No one is saying they haven't or don't have hard lives and issues specific to their own identity. It's just not the same as those of cis women, and it kind of fee

I support trans rights, and I support women’s rights. I’m concerned by the hijacking and changing of the language for women. I don’t view it as equality, it feels wrong and misogynistic. Everyone’s rights should be respected but I feel that you cannot and should not ‘vanish’ women by changing the language used. The level of vitriol and abuse directed to JKR for speaking about this issue is disgraceful. The amount of people insisting that debate, questions, or defence of women’s rights is ‘transphobic’ is appalling. This bullying and silencing of women, of anyone with an opinion that does not match that of the extreme transactivists, has to stop.

Regardless of where we stand on the questions of sex and gender, we cannot allow the bullying, intimidation and silencing of women to continue. The word for that is misogyny.

Strongly disagree with this hateful persecution and the toxic forced eradication of women's rights by such shameful bullying and abusive tacticts.
I stand with J K Rowling.
