In-person return to school with an on-line (virtual) option

Thank you. While I agree we have all benefited from a great school district, I would open up the discussion that I would like even further options for the future. Times have changed and the school district no longer seems to uphold the same values they once did. They are becoming very political and catering to a set group of beliefs and a set group of professionals. During these times of 2020, I support this option as a great alternative. However, in the future I would like to see vouchers available to give people even more freedom to choose. I hope teachers take this opportunity to seize the entrepreneurial possibilities of creating more intimate settings for our kids At almost $15,000 allocated for each student; a teacher could create a great environment and at the same time reaping a smaller class size and good salary.

Thank you to all involved for starting the conversation with a reasonable and attainable plan.

Great idea! I like the idea of recording the live stream as well, knowing some kids may miss the live stream time (illness, parent is working at home and needs the computer for a meeting, etc.). Could kids opt in and out...could they come to school some days but not others? I’m guessing this would be disruptive and you’d still want a solid schedule with 1/2 kids attending MT and 1/2 on Thurs/Fri IF they want to physically attend (and mask/distance)...perhaps they find they do want to see friends, ask teachers questions in person, etc.

Even school has to be delayed another few weeks in order to technologically make this happen I think it’s a valid option that should be seriously considered.

I have 4 children in the Waunakee school system. 2 have health conditions that place them in the high risk category for Covid complications. Fortunately, those two would prefer an online option as they are introverted. The other 2 are very extroverted and have struggled greatly with quarantine. I would LOVE to have the option to send 2 to in person instruction AND have the other 2 following the same schedule at home.

Can we add a number 12. We also commit to helping to contain and slow the spread of this virus by having our family wear masks in public and maintaining social distancing. We also will make sure our kids are taught not only to do this but also the importance of doing it both in school and in the community. Without this the schools will have to close anyway and the costs will be high not to mention lost staff that we can't replace

Our children need to socialize. This isolation will have significant negative implications in the long run. Do the right thing.

It does seem like a good option, but I am pretty sure nothing will be able to be recorded as long as there are students in the room. I work in another district and we will not be able to record our lessons and post for later viewing for privacy student privacy reasons. They only way we've ever been able to record in a classroom is if teachers are using it for professional growth, but never can it be posted or used for other purposes.

Kayla - I agree with you. Live streaming is a good option but it should be recorded and available after the fact. That way if a kid didn’t understand, they can rewatch. Or if, like me, there are 3 kids working at the same time, someone is going to miss something. I also like this as an option, like you said, when kids are home sick/on vacation. I keep my kids home the mandated 24 hrs after an illness and at that point they are well enough to do work from home.

Sounds more educational for all and interactive classrooms will work with optional online of these same classes

I find it interesting that we are expecting kids to follow guidelines (wearing masks, social distancing) that many adults can’t/won’t follow. I also am very concerned about long term effects Covid may have on both students and staff.

I like many aspects of this proposal. It does allow flexible options that leverage the investments that our district has made in technology and the assets that many families ( but not all) have available in their homes. I would like to understand and explore what resources and Innovative options would be available for teachers who for any range of family/personal reasons may need occasional or regular opportunities to continue teaching virtually from home. I would also suggest including a commitment to identify solutions for families who don’t have Internet access in their homes.

Live viewing is great but a pre-recorded option for those who may be juggling working/parenting or when kids get sick. Great to see they could just jump on and see what they missed. Heck this could be something used going forward anytime kids are home sick or take a family vacay during the school year.
