In-Person Learning at Lab School

It is too dangerous to return our kids to school. I've been working in hospitals and seeing the seriousness of the coronavirus COVID-19 and I also see the mutated strains spreading. The parents on this petition are idiots.

No more masks for children please. Unforeseen psychological damage to kids wearing masks in school.

It saddens me to read some of these comments. I understand everyone is having a hard time through this, and that for many of you, the remote environment is a real struggle. But the lack of respect for the teachers' own struggle, their desire to keep their loved ones safe, and their effort to deliver their utmost in the remote environment, is quite upsetting. We are all privileged having our kids at Lab. Maybe our energy would be better spent caring for those that are really, truly, missing out and losing ground in COVID times.

I’m disappointed in Lab with not keeping pace with education, and not challenging students enough. I want the Teachers Union and Administration to read this as a request for them to set a goal to shoot past perfection in the benefits that they provide students. Great schools keep aiming for better and this one is not doing the same. I want you to do better and teach past limits other schools have done.

It is time for all schools to reopen!!

If not now, then when?

I am signing this petition for the emotional stability of our kids. This is all about our kids, and this is a chance for the leaders of Lab Schools to really show that they place importance on the social/emotional needs of our children.

I observe that there are many intentions but something is missing. There is the intention to be assured of safety. What's missing is not science, research or mitigation. What i missing is acknowledging that there is no path to fully satisfy this intention. There is the intention to bring our students back to in person learning. What's missing is that the forest has been lost for the trees. It seems as though we are analyzing each straw in a haystack of ideas. What's missing is the willingness to try something, anything, even something small, to see what we can learn. What's missing is the willingness to try something without having every answer, without having everyone assured. What's missing is asking what can we learn from what we have already done? Have we not already brought some students back? What's missing is leaders with the decision making ability to accept some degree of risk. What else is missing? What's missing is the willingness to to make and own a decision, to own the responsibility, to own the things that will go wrong, to own that adjustments will be made. to own that not everyone can be on the exact same page. We are a thinking thoughtful smart community. We each are who we are by a process of learning. So, we know the leaders will not be able to achieve a full consensus and we know that a plan will not be able to allay every concern. But the leaders who can make the decision can stand in front and say, this is the way that we will go. A leader says, trust me, follow me forward into the unknown and we will survive and tackle this together because I know you are all behind me and I am only thinking of you. We will rally as a community. COVID did not spring upon our doorstep in September, nor did CDC guidance suddenly appear like a bright blinding light last week. Restore Lab's pride in excellence, logic, and science!

We are in the midst of a mental health pandemic. There is substantial data indicating that a return to school can be done safely. We need to move forward!

It is time to get back into the classroom!

It's unacceptable that we continue to pay full tuition as one of the only (possibly THE only) private school that has not been able to get primary grade students back in the classroom. This has not been detrimental to these young students, and to compound it they're missing additional days of learning as you all backtrack from your return to campus plan and cancel their classes this week.

The mental health of our kids demands a more robust and in person learning experience.

Schools that don't have the resources available to Lab are expected to open successfully. It is difficult to understand why Lab together with the University is unable to chart a less wavering pass towards reopening.

I do not sign this in anger. I have great empathy for anyone who has to make decisions affecting large numbers of people during this time. But I am frustrated that parents are effectively being kept at arms’ length - both from contributing to the University’s decisions, and to understanding the rationale for those decisions. This dis-engagement and avoidance of debate seems to go against much of what the University stands for.

My 10.5 yr old daughter’s mental health is at stake. PLEASE think of the children!

Very unsatisfied with what Lab has provided vs what it has promised.

If my son didn’t love Lab so much I would have pulled him out long ago and switched to Latin or Parker. I won’t because he shouldn’t be punished for your failure.

I cannot agree more with the petition. Our children are suffering mentally and physically with Lab’s current remote learning policy.
