In honor of Coco McCann, remove the Rottweiler from Lansdowne

Mr McCann: I'm sorry for the loss of your sweet Coco. I'm curious to know if you asked the Maleks to pay for your vet bills and how they have responded. Would you mind letting us know?

Dear friends, thank you very much for your thoughtful consideration on our petition. We appreciate your endorsement along with your thoughtful comments on the situation. I know that many of you are interested in knowing the outcome of the court hearing. In summary, the judge gave me the floor to make a statement and I conveyed the following points. 1. While this was the first offense on record with Loudoun County Animal Services, our neighbors have witnessed this Rottweiler on the loose in the past, which is obvious owner neglect. 2. This incident has invoked fear among parents and children in our neighborhood and this dog should not be allowed to stay in its current home in this neighborhood. 3. I challenged the judge that simply deeming this dog as a "dangerous dog" and requiring a muzzle when it is off of its property is not enough of a penalty. By allowing this to be the charge, and not removing the Rottweiler from this neighborhood, the court is putting the future safety of children, parents, and other pets at risk. 4. I presented the results of our petition to the judge by informing him that in just 48 hours, we gathered 100+ signatures and 30+ comments. While maintaining your anonymity, I read several of those comments to the court, mainly from neighbors who live on Vestals Place and Canoe Landing. Bottom line, the charge against this Rottweiler and the dog-owner has not changed. On a positive note, the judge did close with a very firm warning to the dog owner and I quote. "Mr. Malek, after hearing Mr. McCann's testimony, along with the outcome and comments with his petition, you'd better take this charge very seriously. Mr. McCann is on record with the Commonwealth of Virginia and this court with his testimony. You should know and understand that your neighbors are fearful of you keeping this dog in your home. If you violate any aspect of the requirements associated with keeping a dangerous dog in your home

Because this dog has a history of attacking and killing, in addition to an alleged history of careless ownership, I am asking that this dog be removed from my neighborhood so that it can not pose a threat to other children or pets.

It is after much consideration that I’ve signed this petition. I do not take it lightly. I am speaking as a dog owner who has raised several dogs in my lifetime, two of them being Rottweiler’s. I adore my fur babies, but I am not blind to or without the knowledge of what they are capable of. Dogs act out of animal instinct and often to the disbelief of their humans. I’m not sure that I would be able to live, in good conscience, with my dog knowing that it was responsible (without being provoked) for leaving an unconscionable hole in another families life – by brutally and viciously killing their adored dog. As a dog owner you take on the responsibility of your dog’s actions and must be held accountable and do what is right to ensure a safe environment for the community in which you live.

I am sorry to hear that your daughter had to experience a traumatic attack. For the sake of our children's safety, I fully support your efforts to remove the Rottweiler.

I'm so sorry to hear of Coco's passing and feel awful that Sophia experienced such a terrifying attack. I implore The Honorable Judge to consider the safety of this neighborhood and prevent the chance of this dog escaping and attacking again.

Terrible thing to do

So sad for your daughter and family to go through this. You should be able to walk a dog on a leash in the neighborhood without them being attacked and at-risk for death. Ridiculous.

I'm sorry for the tragic loss of your family dog, and the nightmare your daughter and family has endured! Please remove the aggressive dog(s) immediately before our neighborhood experiences another horrific attack.

I don't want to be in fear for my children or my dog. I hope a decision is made to remove the dog from the neighborhood.

Because a dog like that (the Rottweiler) can not be around a community like this!

After looking at all these comments I would feel equally scared about walking to school near that vicious dog that has killed other living beings before.

Remove this dangerous dog from our neighborhood!!!
