In the Kirkland community, on 132nd St near 132nd Park,a crosswalk was built to narrow down the traffic flow. While it's doing its job perfectly, it has a downside. Many pedestrians, including myself, have experienced aggressive driving habits, making crossing the road, a once normal experience, frightening. Cars speed past the crossings as though stopping is discouraged, and it's simply unacceptable. This issue wouldn't be visible if there weren't casualties to add to it, which may begin to increase if nothing is done.

When there's a car accident involving death, it would generally be thought of as a terrible tragedy, and the community would find ways to help better the situation for those affected. Not to say we shouldn't sympathize, that would be inhuman.Theaction being called for is to changethe rules and regulations (signs, speed bumps, etc.), resulting in a safer, more substantialcommunity.

By signing this petition, you're saying that you'rein agreement that Kirkland Parks and Recreation need to upgrade crosswalks. This would mean installing any equipment necessary to make drivers more aware of pedestrian based laws, such as right of way. It would also include putting in any equipment necessary to slow down drivers before stopping at a crosswalk, meaning speed bumps, speed cameras, etc. Thank you for reading.
