Improved Bike Directions and Mandatory Training for New Students at UCSB
Given UCSB's reputation as a bike-friendly campus, navigating the campus by bike can be challenging and possibly unsafe due to lack of yield signs, congested pathways, and lack of awareness among cyclists and pedestrians. Because new students either don't encounter these bike paths until arriving on campus or not every students have regularly ridden a bike creates more of a need for both clear directives, such as addition of yield signs, and mandatory training videos. By prioritizing bike safety measures and resources for new students, UCSB can create a more safe, clear, and sustainable campus environment. To ensure proper bike etiquette for new students, mandatory training videos will be integrated into the Higher Education Student Edition Online Training platform. Every incoming student will be required to watch and complete these videos before the start of their first fall quarter. This approach ensures that all students receive essential guidance on navigating UCSB's bike-centric campus safely and responsibly. We urge the administration to take immediate action to address these issues and ensure the well-being and safety of all members of the UCSB community.
