To the Municipal Commissioner
Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai

Dear Sir,

The MCGM has been undertaking digging 'work' since December 2013 on the entire stretch of breach candy ( bhulabhai desai road, D ward). We put the word 'work' in inverted commas because no work seems to be happening and all one sees around is huge mounds of rubble, big craters and a total decimation of pavements. The condition is especially horrific outside Tirupati apartments opposite Mahalakshmi temple.

It is absolutely outrageous that the MCGM has been so lackadaisical and inconsiderate in its approach. Have your people no concern for the substantial problems faced by numerous residents and shop owners who suffer everyday because they cannot negotiate the rocky ruined paths that were once pavements, not only older people but even youngsters are always in fear of tripping and falling, there are deep holes in the ground with no covers and there is always a risk of falling into them, shop owners suffer losses as people cannot get to their shops because of the huge craters in front, mosquitoes have increased in the area because the craters are prone to collect stagnant water, traffic snarls have increased in the area causing air and noise pollution apart from the obvious troubles for motorists.

The area is worse than a war zone and is unbecoming of a city that is striving to be world class. We pay so much in taxes and the least we expect is that the MCGM not inconvenience us in this manner.

The quality of the minimal work done also seems to be pathetic as the cement and bricks are already falling apart on the circular structures built.

The rains will arrive in a month and a half, we shudder to think what will happen if the situation is not rectified by then.

Please do respond and ensure that some concrete steps are taken to rectify this situation immediately.

Sincerely,

Concerned residents
