Parking at the farm has always been tricky and with the increased volume of customers particularly during busy times of the year safety is starting to become a concern.
We are currently in discussion with Essex Highways about the possibility of creating a new exit from the PYO/Overflow car park, preventing traffic backing up onto the road at busy times.
Importantly it would also give more room and a safer environment for visitors walking between the car park and the farm shop, coffee shop and animals.

This seems like a good idea, as long as it doesn't alter the general ambiance of Lathcoats. We always think it has a - not too regimented feel -- still rural. Many farm businesses get too big, and it spoils them.
We frequently visit Lathcoats and Abercorn across the road and we are fed up with dodging traffic. It must be even worse with children, prams, trolleys and wheelchairs to keep in hand. Lathcoats' proposals sound godo to me.
I have been fruit picking at Lathcoats for over 30 years and the number of people that visit the farm has increased so much. It would be a sensible change for safety, especially with the garden centre’s entrance on the opposite side of the road.
It really does make sense so that there would be a one-way system in effect because the present entrance is restricting the width of the access to the pyo car park
This PYO and popular local farm shop and coffee house is very busy at times. To turn from the main road into the farm means cars back up as you wait to get in - a road safety hazard and another exit would relieve this situation.
My whole family have shopped at Lathcoates Farm. Since when we moved to Chelmsford in 1973. We go once sometimes twice a week. Over the years the car park area has become dangerous! Mainly because of all the cars exiting one area. And being disabled like myself and my parents, it is extremely hard to get a disabled car park space as only 4 are available, so you struggle across the yard or sometimes around the barns with traffic coming at you. It definitely would help if there was another exit from the car park and give disabled more spaces so we don't have to struggle across the yard.!
I would support any improvement to the traffic flow at Lathcoats Farm
