Roodeplaat Dam is the home of rowing in South Africa, being the host venue for major rowing events such as Gauteng Champs and
S A Champs. It is also the training venue for the national SA squad, numerous clubs, schools and university teams.
In recent years the general state of Roodeplaat Dam has deteriorated. Problems which have been encountered range from poor water quality, poor quality of roads, lack of maintenance of amenities (clubhouse, toilets etc). A major recurring problem appears to be the supply of water at Roodeplaat Dam which is dependant on the water level in reservoirs. Since the demand for water is erratic during the rowing season, it appears as though the current reservoirs are insufficient to meet the demands at peak periods. This results in the malfunctioning of The ablution facilities which creates a health and hygiene risk.
The rowing community, as a major client of Roodeplaat Dam and an interest group hereby petition Rowing SA and the Department of public works to address the above mentioned concerns with immediate effect. All interested parties have indicated their support for these demands by way of signature which is recorded on this petition.
