Who is affected by mental health illnesses?

Over 40 million Americans have an anxiety disorder, and 14.8 million have depression. Another 8.9 million Americans who suffer from mental illnesses are also dealing with substance-abuse disorders.

Why is it necessary to improve our mental health care?

  • In 2006, mental disorders were one of the most costly conditions in the United States, with expenditures at $57.5 billion.
  • In 2014, more than 1.2 million Americans were incarcerated, and received double or quadruple the probation and parole time when compared to the general public.
  • Out of 8.9 million adults in the US, 37.6% of them did not get the treatment they required.
  • ¼ primary care patients suffer from depression, but primary care doctors could identify only 31% of these patients.

By signing this petition, you will help us get notice from the government and make them listen to our demands on how to improve our health care.

How can we improve our Mental Health Care?

  • We need to have better control of our funding. Nearly 100 billion dollars is used for our health care, yet only a small portion of that reaches the ones who need it the most.
  • We need better doctors. Doctors not being able to identify a patient's symptom for a disorder is unacceptable.
  • We need to spread awareness. Talk! Blog! If we want to change our Health Care, we need more people to know about it's problems. Let your community know that our Health Care is not working as good as it should be.
  • Support is needed during May, Mental Health Care Awareness month. This will be the month where we will put most of our focus.
