Dear GEAR school authorities,

This is a petition by the parent's of 7th standard students related to the science book followed as part of the curriculum. We find that the book used, while voluminous in size, is not of the desired quality required for today's students to be able to succeed in today's tough competitive life.

To compare just one chapter on Motion and Time, the GEAR book takes 19 pages of extremely verbose text to cover these topics: Types of motion, Speed with formula and units, Graphical representation of motion, and simple pendulum. The competing textbook covers the following topics: Rest and Motion, Kinds of motion, speed with formula and units, kinds of speed, Velocity and kinds of velocity, Average velocity with formula, Acceleration with formula and units, concepts of Pendulum and equation describing the motion of the pendulum, with very succinctly written text, neat diagrams, and solved examples, all of which is covered in just 12 pages.

Students reading the prescribed text books invariably get bored of the amount of text covering the same point again and again, while not learning what they really should be, of such important concepts like velocity, acceleration, getting familiar with formulas and learning to use them in solved examples, just to name a few. This pattern is seen in every chapter, whether Physics or Chemistry or Biology.

We request the GEAR authorities to select books that provides a competitive edge to the students, from academic year 2015 onwards, especially for classes 7th and above.
