Improve Food Quality and Living Conditions for Inmates in South Carolina Prisons
Every person, regardless of their circumstances, deserves safe, nutritious food and humane living conditions. Currently, many inmates in South Carolina prisons face substandard meals and unsanitary or unsafe conditions that negatively affect their health and well-being. Reports and personal accounts from inmates show that meals often lack proper nutrition, are insufficient in quantity, and sometimes include spoiled or unappetizing food. Additionally, many facilities struggle to maintain cleanliness and basic safety standards, impacting the health of both inmates and staff. This situation not only harms individuals but also creates long-term costs for the state in healthcare and recidivism.
We urge the South Carolina Department of Corrections to:
1. Improve the nutritional quality and quantity of meals served in all state correctional facilities.
2. Conduct regular inspections to ensure food safety and proper hygiene standards.
3. Provide inmates with access to healthier options, especially for those with medical dietary needs.
4. Address general living conditions to ensure humane treatment for all inmates.
By signing this petition, we show that we care about the dignity and health of all individuals in South Carolina prisons. Please join us in urging state officials to take immediate action to improve prison food and living conditions.
