Impact of Independence HS sharing with 3 Charter Schools

I think we shouldn't have charter schools in my school because it takes up spaces for students like I go have more space to be around & have more classes to learn more stuff & we shouldn't let them be here because the girl soccer team have to practice really late everyday because the other girls take over our field.

Independence school students and teachers should have priority over other charter schools for using the facilities. Safety of these students should be the #1 priority.

With such a high population of students in one area, safety takes priority over all else. As an alumni of Independence High School, I have witnessed a lot of these things during my years attending this institution. There should be no mixing between the charter schools and Independence and if facilities should be shared, there must be inspection before and after each use. I hope the Board comes directly to the school during the hours in which school is in session to witness first hand what goes on on campus.

Im a current student and athlete at independence high school and I was truly irritated when I found out that the district was planning on adding yet another charter school, like three isn't enough! Idon't think it's fair that all these charter schools are taking over our school. After all these schools are still located at Independence high school so why not have the students enroll. The students from these charter schools complain that they want to have the same benefits that we have so, again, why don't they just enroll at Independence and have the same benefits we get. Yes they have every right to be at Independence but what's not right is that charter schools are taking over Independence. Not only are they taking classrooms and space but they're taking our gym, dance rooms and fields, but their schedule also runs into our which causes late/cancelled practices, or we have to go practice at a different school. Why are we the ones that have to sacrifice all this when that is our school? Why are we the ones that have to roll over and get our school taken away piece by piece? I understand sports might be an important program for their schools but what about our sport programs we all work very hard to get into the the team, and even harder to have a great season. All I'm saying is in the end the location is still Independence high school and we should have priority, if they want to use something of ours they should work around our schedule not the other way around, and they should be grateful for what they receive and not complain and demand for more, after all you're the ones in our school.

The school is becoming too overcrowded and dangerous for all students

I want my sister and all the rest of the students to be safe and egar to go get an education not dread it by unessesary problems.

As a recent graduate, I have seen the financial and legislative burdens that this structure has placed upon our students and faculty. It is COMPLETELY unfair. IHS, even as a standalone, had enough issues of its own. It saddens me to think that priorities are not being placed in the appropriate areas.

I have attended the meeting yesterday. It was very interesting, but emotional at the same time. Everyone showed their support to combat charter school actions as everyone wanted to make things right. I sat in the near front of the school board members, and when I looked at them listening to other's speeches, they looked like they didn't give a **** at all! They were like statues with no emotions expressing. As Mr. Battle talked about the "loss of million of dollars", things worsened as there were two charter kids: one from KIPP, and one from ACE, who felt "butthurt" after receiving hatred comments from my fellow Sixers; however, I don't blame KIPP, because I have to admit that they perform way much better than we Sixers do( Don't flame me please.). But, the girl from ACE mentioned our graduation rate, which is very reasonable to say because a large majority of class at Indy usually graduate, although not all of them do. After this speech from the girl, there was a flame war as Mr. Funk said: "Hey, be respectful.", and this meeting turned into a heated, hectic debate as many teachers "went off". Now, I should've gave a speech, but too nervous to stand up, talking in front of people, but, I will in the next meeting. The time lasted for 2 hours. As I have commented on here before, I want to make a speech about my backpack incident of how bad the community was and is now, and how the security cameras will benefit a safe campus in the future after I graduate. I also want to point out that the perpetrator is, perhaps, a charter student from either ACE or DCP. Why is this such a random statement? Because there are so many students on IHS campus and we know what ACE and DCP students are like during lunch when we have class sessions. My answer could be right or wrong, but a theory of the true person who has done stupid things at my school by taking someone's property(backpack) and dumping it in the toilet! Please make this fair for Independence and the charter school students.

As a students at independence high school I don't think we should continue sharing our campus. As a school we do a lot to try and improve our school so our activities and learning environment will improve. Adding charter schools is like throwing all our hard work to expand their school.
