As a former student of Independence, I can attest to all of the claims of violence and vandalism. I have also seen many charter school kids on Independence grounds, causing problems for students, staff, and the facilities. All these issues need to be addressed. I admit, Independence is guilty of graffiti, vandalism and violent altercations, but the amount sky rocketed once the charter schools began using the campus.

Charter Schools cause harm to all ESUHSD students due to the fact that they force all students to share limited space and resources. This does a disservice to ESUHSD students as well as to Charter School students.

I think it's ridiculous how over crowed the traffic is around the school now with so many driving and parking around the area.

Charters are not the solution. Small class size works.

My family has a history of going to independence since 1985. My oldest daughter graduated in 2015. My middle daughter is attending one of "those" charter schools as a freshman right now. The blame for all of these issues being on the shoulders of the "charter schools" is ridiculous. Independence has had a history of violence, disrespect towards staff and school properties for over a decade! My brother in law was stabbed with a screw driver in the field in 1992! My husband was jumped and beat up in 1993 in the locker room! My daughter watched numerous altercations with staff and students from the independence population all her 4 years in attendence! Attempting to point the finger at the charter schools solely without taking any accountability is ridiculous. Do you know how many times my independence student had mandatory code reds, campus issues, saw thefts and student violence? The independence population has always been too large, and has ever been changing as the surrounding neighborhood and community grow. Blaming the charter schools will not stop or
Change anything that's challenging- it will just redirect the blame.
My middle daughter is a charter school student, attending DCP. She loves it. The staff and population are small and close knit. They are truely involved and committed to their students success. The students safety is their utmost priority- and they have strict guidelines in place on their kids behavior and boundaries on campus. The teachers and staff are aware of their kids actions and movements from the moment they walk on campus until the second they walk off. Before blaming "those charter schools" as a whole-thorough and informative research should be done, and a very harsh look at independence itself should be done.

Totally unfair, the school needs its campus for their own students. Plus, to avoid further violence.

Please push this problem forward. Independence should not be victim to outside, external abuse, especially from other students who use OUR stuff!
