As a parent of an upcoming prek3 child we would love to have a immersion program at a school we are IB for.

I am a current parent at Miner and think we need to make sure to support Miner in the best way possible, and be open to taking more time to set the proper foundation to make sure whatever special Miner's community chooses is the right fit. I personally like language immersion as I have grown up speaking other languages and it gave me confidence as a child, however, I also know that we can't shake up a school completely without risking destabilization. I support this group and their right to envision their child's educational future, but I also welcome and encourage families to come in and help us. I appreciate those that have stepped up already.
There are great ingredients at Miner right now; a group wonderful & talented teachers, support and commitment from DCPS administration to get us the things we need (we'll have a Community School coordinator next year!), a core of caring support staff, the first fully elected Local School Advisory Team, and an active PTO that exceeded their fundraising goals. We've added a garden program with Cultivate the City and a science club with NASA. We need to be careful about building on that so we can build something that is great for all of Miner's children.
I can't wait for next year irregardless of the special curriculum Miner chooses. I am coming back as are many of the core parents on the LSAT and PTO who have been supporting Miner this year. Because of our location, Miner will remain diverse as it grows stronger and stronger. I love that fact and I will continue to work hard to help it grow. Please join us!

Miner is rising and the community is vested in the evolution of programming at the school. A language immersion program would be phenomenal for current student body as well as to attract future and maintain enrollment.

My preference would be for Spanish, but I'm very supportive of any dual language immersion programs.

I am a parent of a child who will be in pk3 next year. We are in-bounds for Miner and are strongly considering enrolling. A language immersion program would be a big plus in our minds. We would love our child to be exposed to another language.

Children East of the River are solicited for summer camps and social service programs and studies; however, with regards to academics, rarely are those same opportunities and outreach afforded to our youth. Level the playing field and give us immersion!

Still doing research so an in-house forum would be great. Thinking globally and about Miner's students- Mandarin is sounding better. May work with STEAM.

On Saturday, the presentation really established that language immersion is being acknowledged as "best practices" for early education. And I heard from so many parents who are seeking an immersion program because they are envisioning the ways this would open opportunities for their children and believe they can do it!
