PETITION FOR MARK SORANI
A petition started out months ago as a means of briefly describing an oxycontin habit I acquired at work and asking CSATF/AMPTP/Local 399 for forgiveness with regards to my career ending (2 strikes rule). In reality, no one from either of these 3 institutions could care to give this a minute of their attention because they don't have to.
Years ago, a work accident earned my leg 13 stitches to the shin. The first thing that came to mind was how the hell am I going to drive a manual shift truck and not miss work or call in sick the next day. The immediate remedy was a non-prescribed 80 milligram oxycontin opioid pill. By pure accident, that pill set in motion a dependency that lasted for 2.5 years up until the first "strike". I took it upon myself to medicate out of failing another drug test by regularly seeing a Doctor for a Suboxone prescription. This approach was not perfect, it was not a cure to an OxyContin habit, but it worked and I was clean passing follow up drug tests while keeping steady work. The second "strike" came 3 days after a 9-month clean run ended. This happened at work, on location.
Why didn't I do this, or why didn't I do that, what were you thinking? I never claimed to be a smarter person on OxyContin pills. I have no excuse. There have been numerous letters written to CSATF/AMPTP/Local 399 asking to explain a few inconsistencies regarding their protocols and rules. Finally, a response is mailed. The AMPTP says they have nothing to do with roster placement, roster management, employee hiring, etc. They have nothing to do with CSATF, nothing to do related to a studio worker and any discrepancies or questions. It's a producer issue. No mention of anything else. CSATF replied, reminding and repeating what I already know. You are removed from the roster for 2 strikes. Yes, they agreed I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN HIRED on the show I got banned from the roster on. This however is not their problem it's again a producer mistake. No mention of anything else.
This is a request for CSATF to explain why I was hired while suspended from the roster. The process was procedurally defective. Who saw my name in red and overlooked blocking production from hiring me during August of 2021? Who managed my follow up testing schedule not abiding by USDOT rules, having taken only 3 follow up tests in 15 months and not the mandatory 6 within 12 months? All of these rules and information are on the CSATF website. Who at my local (I ask this sincerely with the utmost respect) turned down a request from a local doctor who noted an uptick with prescription pill use during a national opioid epidemic to speak at a meeting regarding the dangers of Oxycontin use. Same goes for CSATF, drivers testing positive for prescription pills at an obviously alarming rate and they knew this. Not one person from any department inside or outside of production ever once mentioned hey might want to address this, hate to see someone get in trouble or worse yet get hurt. In the end no one is looking out for my safety (except during Covid in which extreme measures were taken to keep a production healthy).
I got full due process for my mistakes, no questions asked. What I have learned about CSATF, AMPTP, IER, SAPs, DOT rules, Clearinghouse, and the Black book is too much too late. Per the rules I should not have been on that show. CSATF is saying you can skip your safety classes, be suspended from the IER, and it's not within their authority to block you from working, it's a producer decision. My suspension letter from them totally contradicts this. CSATF/Local 399 are NOT responsible for my 2nd strike on the day of. They ARE partly responsible for some of the circumstances and events leading up to the 2nd strike and will never admit it. So, by signing this "petition" we all agree that my removal could be invalid if a conditional work waiver is requested by a producer and agreed to by Local 399.
