It's sad that this has happened to this young digger.
I used to do the exact same thing 6 yrs ago when I was in and everyone would wave in my area the worst thing that would happen is some one would tell me to run faster not call the bloody cops and if they did the cops would of said go jog in the bush not charge you with it
It the person who called it in who needs to be charged with wasting police time causing undue public histaria along with having their drivers licence cancelled cause they are obversely blind as a bat

It's about time you all stop with the PC. Since when can't military train and have to be hidden. Get a life people and stop dragging our military down. And as for the brass in the military, grow some balls and stand by your men, you would in battle

This is patently ridiculous, I ran with a training drill rifle as well as a plastic one for simulation purposes. I've even taken training weapons to and from martial arts to home. Absolute media beat up and police grand standing!

People should reconsider their citizenship if they reported this man. Not only are you dangerously unstable person to feel threatened but you are unbelievably mislead to not recognise the green. You truly do not deserve this man and many others commitment to the country.

It was not a replica weapon, it was a training weight that bears little likeness to a real weapon! I have done the same in the past. Come on people, talk about misguided paranoia!!!!!!
