I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this petition. It's time to raise awareness in support of a very well-known issue: the legalization of the recreational use of marijuana/cannabis. If you, the people, help out by signing this petition as well as e-mailing your district's senators we can bring the topic up in the next General assembly meeting and possibly get it passed. It is up to us to put pressure on our representatives in order to create awareness on the topic. Our state is in a large amount of debt, and our Governor, Bruce Rauner, has recently released his budget and he is cutting a lot of important programs that the state needs such as, Health care and university funding. We can make a difference in our state by showing support to this cause. We allow things such as cigarettes and alcohol to remain legal while marijuana/cannabis, which has no deaths to this very day, remains illegal. States such as Colorado have benefited greatly since it has allowed legalization and our state can also see profit that we can use to help our state. In order for us to get there we have to commit to this cause because together we can achieve great things.
