Declaring the nets illegal is a great first step but without proper implementation and policing it has no effect. Lets properly empower the relevant people to take back their rivers.

I worry how this affects the other countries relying on these rivers too.

It's so noticeable how the fish population has diminished and this will result in less reasons to visit the surrounding areas in Namibia, Zambia etc it's so sad it's killing the economies that are providing much needed employment and the preservation of the natural beauty that we all come to visit

netting, mosquito nets , complete closure of bays and inlets by nets and drag netting at night , illegal size nets and illegal methods are not being controlled by the relevant authorities equals unsustainable usage...

So sad to see the devastation going on in Africa. Overpopulation results in poverty which in turn results in stripping the environment of every possible resources to survive. If we do not stop this devastatin of the environemtn Africa will just become a bare planet with only people. What will they eat then?surviving

Gee Glen, Please get out on the rivers by boat and you will see the extent of fishing not only in the Okavango River but at Lake Ngami. That is a massive lake and one can barely drive a boat through the place for the nets that are in the water. The fish are then trucked up through Zambia for sale. The fish are not feeding the local population nor providing for local economy as the owners live elsewhere in the world. The devastation is massive and raping a environment system that can not afford it.
