We, the Inter-Lakes Class of 2016 and the undersigned students, parents and taxpayers of the Inter-Lakes School District respectfully request that future High School graduations be held at the Inter-Lakes High School Turf Field instead of Prescott Park. We believe Prescott Park is an outdated venue for such a momentous event, especially now that Inter-Lakes High School has a state of the art facility like the turf. We graduate high school only one time and we want to make this day as positive and memorable as possible.

There are many reasons why the turf field is a better option than Prescott Park. It offers not only a more aesthetically pleasing experience, but an abundance of great memories. Not only were numerous sporting events held on this turf, but championships were won, and individual accomplishments were achieved. The field overlooks both of our schools and it is a location that many of us have looked upon over the past 18 years. This is where the students had to be every single day and therefore the turf offers more notable value than Prescott Park. In addition to personal and aesthetic values, the turf also provides many more practical values as well. Parking facilities and bathroom facilities are much improved. Ben Crosby, a 2015 graduate, has remarked that “Parking was harder at Prescott than it would have been at the turf, because graduates either needed to walk in the mud or take the bus in order for there to be enough parking for guests. Also, the bathrooms are much more accessible and convenient at the high school which was a major problem.”

We have heard of some objections to a venue change and do not feel that any of the issues raised can not be overcome. It is OUR graduation and we want to do whatever is required to make it happen at our choice of venue. The benefits of moving it to the turf field outweigh any reasons of keeping it down at Prescott Field. Whatever fundraising is necessary we are ready for that challenge and welcome any opportunity to discuss this proposal in person and presenting our reasoning to the School Board at its next regularly scheduled meeting on March 22nd. We look forward to tossing our caps in the air this June on our Turf Field. Thank you.
