Climate change is the biggest global health threat of the 21st century.

We, the International Federation of Medical Students´ Association (IFMSA) believe it is crucial that health is reinstated as a framework for negotiation within the UNFCCC (the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change).

The IFMSA reaffirms the need for:

1. The full participation and consultation of the international health community in the international negotiations within the UNFCCC.

2. Meaningful action to be taken by world leaders to assist global climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts in order to safeguard the future health of our planet.

3. The reframing of the ongoing international negotiations to place human health at the centre of discussion, allowing us to achieve a fair, ambitious and legally binding global treaty.

We call for what science and justice demands of the global community a reduction of carbon emissions to a level which ensures the survival our planet’s eco-system and the protection of human health.

I was just checking the counter and we are hovering right near that five hundred mark which is wild because I remember when it was just me and a few friends staring at a blank screen. If everyone who sees this sends the link to just one person who actually cares about health policy then we blow right past this threshold and get the attention this really deserves. It feels like people are finally starting to listen so let's keep the momentum going before the next round of meetings starts up.

I don't entirely agree with point 3 of the petition but since for human well-being the well-being of the rest of the eco-system is crucial as well I sign anyway.
