Let\'s face it. \"The Star Spangled Banner\" is old, hard to sing, and doesn\'t have a guitar solo. What our country needs in these hard times is a song that\'s catchy but meaningful, easy to sing but not simplistic, and musically interesting without requiring an entire orchestra. I would suggest \"Konstantine,\" but come on - no baseball fan would stand for it (literally and figuratively). Not to mention we wouldn\'t be ALLOWED to win gold medals at the Olympics anymore. Anyway, even Andrew McMahon can\'t manage to sing the same words to that song twice in a row and, of course, there\'s still no guitar solo. The next best choice has to be \"If I Die.\" It\'s emotionally compelling, has great lyrics, and can be sung by just about anyone. (Sure, we all prefer Andrew, but who hasn\'t sung it in the shower at least once) It doesn\'t have a guitar solo, granted, but it *does* have that great song intro - probably the best I\'ve ever heard - so it\'s all good. Okay, okay. The song has nothing to do with the flag or the founding of America. The question is, who really cares With \"If I Die,\" we\'d definitely beat any other country in the anthem department. And come on, it\'s really no worse than using the tune to a common English drinking song! So, are you ready to make \"If I Die\" the national anthem Go ahead and sign the petition! We\'ll send it along to the folks at Drive Thru Records if it gets more than, oh, five thousand signatures.
