To revert it back into a comprehensive Department of Geological Sciences from being a "de facto department of chemical analysis and imaging of natural stuffs", more geoscience and paleontology teachers and researchers are urgently needed.

On a research level, the professors of the UoS are renowned worldwide for their contributions to science. However, we will be loosing important funding and recognition if we cut yet another position and courses available.
In recent years, field schools have been cancelled (especially in Biology and Geology) and lab based research has won a majority of grants available from the university. We have students that don't even get to see hills and mountains in a geological study until their third year of university.
We need proactive lecturers in the field, and to give the students a chance to be in the field themselves; otherwise the University will no longer be respected internationally... But ridiculed instead.

Bang on Alannah! My university of choice might have changed knowing the variety offered at other programs! But we now have a chance as a student body to build a better program in Saskatoon for students in the coming years!

The University of Saskatchewan is in desperate need of more classes for geology students, as well as great teachers such as Robin Renault. I wish I could have picked more classes pertaining to sedimentary deposits, since I found that it was my favourite area and one I understood the best. However this was not an option for me. I hope the school can change, so future students can get a better education through a wider variety of classes. The students are the ones paying for their education, so they should be able to buy what classes they desire or should at least be heard by the university to get more classes.
Looking back, since I am graduating in June, I wish I had known to look through the universities geology class options before applying for school, it definitely would've had an impact on my choice of school. However, when fresh out of high school, there isn't a ton of guidance on what to look for in a university (atleast not where I am from), and at the U of S, good guidance doesn't come until you are in the ecology program. Which often comes too late to transfer schools.

Agreed 100% Charlie, please spread the word and get this petition signed throughout the graduate students... if we can get a few hundred of us out for beers we can get the same amount of signatures!
