We are waking up to the dangers of this plant. Spokane residents need to wake as well as this will literally sit on the head waters of the Little Spokane river and their aquifer. Many were afraid of coal trains traveling through, well here thy come. Canada would not allow them to do it, nether should we!

I'm concerned about this smelter for many reasons but a couple to name are the potential for ruining our beautiful water sources in the area and devaluing property taxes. Why don't they do this in Canada?

I would be within 15 miles of this. we live in a prisitne area that will not stay this way with such industrial considerations. There are pleanty of areas not so densley populated that are not prisine anymore..like the Dakotas after fracking..ut it there ...or up in canada since it is a canadian company! No No NO!

This is a pristine and beautiful area. The nature is awesome and inspiring. This is why I live here. A smelter plant would change all of that. It would affect the nature in a negative way and bring more people, traffic, pollution from added vehicles and so on. This is too beautiful of an area to bring this devastation to. I propose that this company from Canada stay in Canada.

People come here to live, not come here to die. I came here for quality of life, not lung cancer, asthma, emphysema, etc.
I have pulmonary disease from a previous occupation. This up-coming pollution will, undoubtedly, put the last nail in my coffin. Will this company offer free medical support for all communities with respiratory issues, indefinitely, and the facilities to go with the medical staff? I hope this doesn't result in a major dispute as people here are beyond angry.

Put it in the desert in another state that is not populated like the town of Newport.

As if Chemtrails aren't bad enough, we moved here for clean living, which includes the air we breathe. Enough already. Try Nevada. It's been toxic for over half a century.

the Kalispel Indians did not allow it to be built. why doesn't Canada build in Canada and ship finished product. Lets find out who in Idaho that is running for public office is going to protect our interests. What are our commissioners doing for Bonners county are they getting their pockets lined by a Canadian company.

Not only will Newport and Oldtown be affected - but all communities within a 50 mile range (winds carry this poison!) including the pristine Priest River / Priest Lake area - yes and even Sandpoint and Schweitzer!
We MUST protect our region from greedy, uncaring opportunists!!

I am against the Newport Smelter!!
It will ruin our way of life and our community. Acid rain, dead trees and polluted waterways. We all live for a reason and it not for a smelter to be built here!!!

"It will create jobs."
Yes, it will for a while, until the silica in the air damages not only our lungs, but also damages tree growth and inevitably harms the logging industry. There are very few reasons to put this in, but lots of reasons not to put it in.

We need jobs harmonized with the environment. They pulled down smelters by Kellogg, ID. Why would we want one in Newport?
No!
