Working to solve the issue of global climate change is more urgent now than ever. The ecologically detrimental effects we have already seen such as rising sea levels, erratic weather patterns, and a global average temperature increase will continue to worsen to the point of catastrophe if we do not all work to make our communities more sustainable.
The Champaign City Council does not have tangible, measurable goals to implement sustainability practices and renewable energy, but we want to change that. After municipal elections we will introduce an iMatter resolution to the Champaign City Council; a resolution that sets sustainability and renewable energy goals for Champaign with quotas to ensure progress.
