To Erect a Concrete Sound Barrier and Tree Barrier along I-485 (Stoney Creek Community)
The noise from the I-485 highway is significantly disruptive within our homes and community. The noise penetrates the entire neighborhood and vibrates in some of our homes which can affect some foundations.. Our streets have been rendered unpeaceful and backyards of little use with no enjoyment for our children and families. Internally the loud traffic noise interrupts our sleep with all windows closed with the sound of bustling cars and trucks. We wake up in the morning and at the close our day with noise from the traffic. Our homes are an investment and the current impact of the highway will severely impact our home values and ability to resell. While convenient for drivers, 485 has definitely had a negative impact on the health and welfare of our families as well as our community environment. Furthermore, as the number of vehicle activity increases the preceding years will bring double the traffic creating more noise.
In the current state, the highway is devaluing our homes. If the homes in our neighborhoods don’t sell, then homeowners will be forced to either rent their homes or abandon them in order to avoid staying in a house in which the property value is plummeting.
We noticed that most of the communities on the south end of I-485 were given a concrete sound barrier and trees for additional sound and visual protection. In addition, a barrier is currently being built at Johnston Road exit. We are also tax paying citizens and requesting the same treatment in our communities as those in South Charlotte and Huntersville.
We are citing Title 23 of the US Code of Federal Regulations, Part 772 for a reference. There are thousands of Receptors that are currently being affected along the unprotected strip. We are also bringing this Petition to attention of our Local and State Representatives and officials.
