I will not be supporting the Xbox One
Microsoft has been pitching the new Xbox (Xbox One) like it's a do-or-die decision. "If you want the best, then here it is!" attitude. It's now past E3 and it appears that the Xbox One is the console version of North Korea. It requires you to "check-in" to Xbox LIVE every twenty four hours. After this check you, you will be able to play offline for 24 hours, or for one hour if you're logged onto a separate console. Now... I understand it's 2013 and people are mostly connected but there are some people who just don't care about online gaming, or just don't live in a high populated area and can't connect to Xbox LIVE in a rural location. Obviously Microsoft didn't target that demographic. However, there are people who do fall into this category! These customers are going to be losing out on the console obviously. Think about little Timmy who's going to Grandma's house for the summer. Grandma doesn't have an internet connection, and he brought his Xbox one with him to play. After that first day, there's going to be alot of "Watching stories on tv with Grandma" and one really upset customer. Probably the worse to come: used games. Without having an example to work with yet, and since the console has not been released, this is going to be a little tricky to pinpoint exactly how the selling of used games will work. At this moment in time, it would appear that publishers are going to develop their own policies. At the moment, EA is drafting a used game policy for the Xbox One. So if you were to go to a used game store, you would pay... let's say $30 for a used game as opposed to $60 for a new one. At the checkout, you will have to pay for the game which is $30, and then you will have to buy a new license for that title. Maybe $25? Maybe more? Less? We don't know exactly how it will be, but it will be set in place. Lastly we have the issue of sharing. This seems to be... well not that big of an issue at first. Personally I used to borrow games from friends to see if I wanted to buy it beforehand. But how about rentals? That's a form of sharing the physical game. You'll have to buy the license to play it like it's a used game just to rent it! Are they going to have a discounted price for a 48 trial of the game, or a 120 hour (5 days) trial period you will have to pay a little extra for on top of the rental price? Game Fly is a pretty cool service for what it's worth, but will we have to pay to play every time we get a new game sent to us? Or worse, will there be a limit on how often we can "borrow"?. From time to time I actually go to Blockbuster and rent a game if no one I know has it. The quality of games nowadays has been very lackluster. Promoting it like it's the bees-knees and when it gets released it's only got a single player campaign that lasts for 4 hours. I'm not going to pay the full price of $60 for that title. I'm going to rent it and beat it in one sitting like I would have normally! Aside from the ranting~ In closing: Signing this petition I will not be purchasing a Xbox One unless the following issues are address 1: 24 hour online check is removed 2: Being able to buy used games without having to further pay to the publishers, or Microsoft. 3: Being able to rent games without having to pay for extended trial periods for that game. (If these trial periods exist in the first place.) 4: Restrict access for your publishers/individuals who represent Microsoft or a third party of Microsoft in any form to speak down to customers via social networking. Seriously, they're really rude, disrespectful, treat customers like cattle, and makes Microsoft look like garbage. http://www.ign.com/videos/2013/06/13/ign-news-cliff-bleszinski-speaks-out-on-used-games?utm_campaign=fbposts&utm_source=facebook 5: Cut down the price on Xbox LIVE. It's 2013. This is nothing new at this point in time. Both of the competitors to the Xbox are doing it for free. The gaming industry makes BILLIONS a year and is constantly climbing up as the years come along. You will only gain more customers if you make this happen.
